Artist in Residence Program Resumes

We’re excited to relaunch our Artist in Residence program in our newly remodeled space. Every three months a local artist occupies our walls with the opportunity to rotate their artwork throughout their time or a continuous display for customers to enjoy.
From our current artist:

In early 2019, in the backyard of the New Haven apartment building where she was living, V. V. Aldebaran McEvoy was introduced to the "personality," if you will, of a maple tree named Gloriah, and a photographic love affair began. Twenty prints from among hundreds of the unique photos that resulted - taken with an iPhone over six seasons and edited only with basic software, each one a caprice - are on display until December 31. We're pretty sure that this exhibit is unlike any you've seen.

Thanks again for this dream-come-true opportunity,

"Aldebaran"

We've reopened with upgraded safety measures...

To our Dear Community,

Generally, during this time of year, I’d be writing about pumpkins and fall squash, and we’d be decorating our sweet little restaurant with all things fall. As we know, this is a very different year for all of us!

It is both remarkable and heart warming to witness how we’ve come together for all our safety, by wearing masks, social distancing (that’s the hardest part!) washing our hands like hospital personnel, and disinfecting surfaces pretty much like in a surgical ward! But, we’re doing it. And, we’re doing it for each other!

I want to let you know what measures, extra measures we’d taken at Claire’s Corner Copia to help keep us safe and to try to protect us from this horrible virus.

In addition to the State of CT rules and recommendations, that include disinfecting surfaces, we’ve gone above and beyond the basics and we’ve added:

We use Microban-24 on our bathrooms and doorhandles every single day to kill virus germs for 24 hours

We had our entire HVAC and ductwork system cleaned and disinfected

We added free standing HEPA filter air purifiers in our restaurant

We upgraded our HVAC filters to collect more particles of virus

Then, for our Piece e Resistance - We consulted with engineers and had ION generators installed on our HVAC compressors and fans that will run 24/7 to “zap” virus germs continuously!

So, basically, we’ve been told that we’re as safe a a dental office - and, we figure that’s going to be as good as we can do, for now - and, of course, I’ll  be praying for our safety, too.

I’ll continue to be on the lookout for further steps we can take to keep us safe.

With all my heart, I wish I could promise that I/we can protect each other, but of course, I can’t. But, I can and do promise that I will do my very best! Always! — With love and gratitude, Claire and Team

March, 2020 Regarding the Covid-19 Virus

To our beloved community. We are so sad to have to close during this pandemic. Rather than stay open for take out and/or delivery, we felt it would be safer for our beloved staff and for you, to stay home. We have never been good at social distancing, as those of you who know us realize:-)

We hope that you and all the people you love are well and safe. And, please eat well, get some exercise, drink plenty of water, get 7-9 hours of sleep each night, and be kind to yourself and to everyone else.

I can’t promise when, but we’ll be back here cooking and baking, laughing, and loving you. Just like always.

But, I can promise that I will always do the right thing. And, I will always do my best!

We’ll get through this! Together!

Love,

Claire, Juana, Gerardo, Cele, Erin, Margie, Rose, Alana, Adriana, Eufemia, Felix, Izzy, Tonny, Patti, Tia, Johan, Diego, Allison, Jonelle, Shanetta, Sheena, Maria, Michelle, Ashley, and Emani

Celebrate Mother's Day at Claire's Corner Copia

Let us help celebrate your Mother on this special day! Beginning at 9 AM, we’ll have organic strawberries to top our homemade Vegan Pancakes and French Toast and we serve them with local maple syrup, too. Or, let her choose from several organic vegetables (think gorgeous asparagus for spring!) for her cooked to order organic Omelette, or Irish Breakfast, Eggs Florentine, or Huevos Rancheros.

Or, bring her for lunch or dinner from noon until 8 PM. We’ll have specials worthy of the queen she is, focusing on the best and most delicious organic ingredients available. And, wait until you see our desserts!

Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful women who helped make us the people we are today. xoxo

Happy 2019!

Dear Community,

We wish you all good things for the new year.

We’ve had a lot to be grateful for in 2018.

Our dear manager, Rose became a US citizen, and we couldn’t be more proud of her and grateful to her for being a bright and caring, fabulous addition to our beloved country. We celebrated with a party at Claire’s Corner Copia that included a delicious vanilla cake, that Margie decorated with organic strawberries and blueberries in honor of our beautiful American Flag.

Our wonderful manager, Erin welcomed a beautiful baby girl, Jane this year. Our hearts are filled with joy as we join Erin and Dave in celebrating such a gift. We can’t wait for her to enjoy her first soup from Claire’s Corner Copia.

We are so grateful for our beloved staff who continue to make this sweet little place we love remain successful - and, yummy! Each person contributes to this operation, much like a fine quilt, where each piece matters and holds things together.

You continue to support this mission of ours to bring real food, vegetarian, organic and sustainable food to this community, in a clean and happy space, where we can share our resources to help others who have been given less. We couldn’t do this without you! Thank you.

Here’s to a new year filled with good health and many joys. We hope that we will continue to find ways to lift those who need a hand up, and to feed those who have too little food. We started a pilot last year where we taught children to prepare healthy and affordable foods. These kids, ages 7-11, made French Toast with warm bananas, bean soups and stews, quesadillas, sauces with pastas, and salads with homemade dressings, batter bread pizzas with vegetable sauces, and cornbread with blueberries. Thanks to the generosity of Father Joe at Saint Martin de Porres Church on Dixwell Ave in New Haven, we had the free use of the kitchen for 8 Saturdays mornings. We are also grateful to two Girl Scout troops, one from New Haven and one from Hamden who taught the children their lessons, that included knife skills, nutrition, sanitation, and what it means to cook real food. And, those children really cooked! And, ate:-) We hope this program can continue in the future, with the women from local Churches, Synagogues and Mosques who have kitchens that we can use. That is our hope.

We will continue to research ways to prepare foods for you that will contribute to your good health while making foods and drinks that are so delicious that you will be eager and happy to have them.

Here’s to your happiness and your good fortune. So much of both, that you’ll have plenty to share with others who have been given less.

And, please eat those 7-9 servings of organic vegetables and fruits every day, and include whole grains, beans and legumes, nuts and good oils to keep your immune systems in good operation. We need you!

Love,

Claire, Juana, Erin, Margie, Rose, Gerardo, Celestino, Elfemia, Brent, Adriana, Felix, Patti, Alana, Tony, Izzy, Tia, Diego, Emily-Rose, Johan, Giovanna, Alison, Maria, Shanetta, Janelle, Sheena, Midge, Courtney, and Michelle.
